Connecting Your MSGCU Account with an account at another bank or credit union. You can connect, or link, your Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union membership with an account at another credit union or bank so you can easily transfer funds between them. Non-MSGCU accounts are referred to in online and mobile banking as "external accounts." You'll only need to set this up once. You'll need the routing number of the other financial institution and the account number of your other account. If you don't have a check to reference, you should be able to find the routing number on the other bank or credit union's website. Once you have the routing number and account number for your other bank or credit union, log in to your MSGCU online account. Click on Transfers & Payments in the blue menu on the left. Then select "Manage Payees." Click "Add new payee" under External Account Payees. Enter the details of your external account in the popup. Two small deposits, totaling a dollar or less, will be sent to your external account. It may take up to 48 hours for those deposits to show. Once your deposits have been received, you'll then need to confirm them in your MSGCU account. Here's how. Log in to your MSGCU account, select Transfers and Payments and Manage Payees again. Under External Account Payees, you will see the account you recently set up, with the word "pending" next to it. Select "confirm" under the account details. Enter the two deposit amounts you received at the other financial institution. You'll see a confirmation message that your external account has been confirmed. You're now able to transfer to and from your MSGCU and external accounts! We'll walk through how to do that next. You can transfer from your MSGCU account to the external account, or from your external account into your MSGCU account. We'll walk through both of them. Select transfers and payments from the blue menu on the left. To transfer from your MSGCU account to an external account, first select which MSGCU account you want the money to come from. Transfers to external accounts can made from your MSGCU checking or membership share savings accounts. In the second column, choose "an external account." If you have more than one external account, select which you'd like the transfer to be deposited to in the drop down. Then enter how much you want to transfer and if you want to transfer now or at a future date. It may take up to three business days for the transfer to show up in your other account. You can also transfer from your external account to your MSGCU account. Select Transfers and Payments from the blue menu on the left. In the first column - under "where is the money is coming from?" - choose "an external account." If you have more than one external account, select which you'd like the transfer to come from in the drop down. In the second column, choose the MSGCU account you want the money deposited to. You can choose your MSGCU checking or membership share savings account account when transferring from an external account. Then enter how much you want to transfer and if you want to transfer now or at a future date. It may take up to three business days for the transfer to show up in your other account.
